Small Car

I found this (and continue to find it) humourous in a not so classy kind of way.

Anybody know what this is going to be?

posted by Ray at 2008-07-24 00:21:13

What's it going to be?

Whatever this is going to be, it certainly seems like too much preparation for just your average single-family home in that single-family neighbourhood. Anyone have any ideas?
(It's on 3rd Street, West Van, just uphill from the intersection with Keith Road.)

Update: July 24th: Today was a busy day over on the construction site, with large trucks each hauling an extra trailer, taking away loads of gravel. Late in the afternoon, the operator of the backhoe parked it on a flat spot, jumped down

Filing a sexual harassment complaint

READ WHOLE POST HERE http://thevancouvermanifesto.blogspot.com/2008/07/filing-sexual-harassme...

I have decided to file a complaint. My letter will describe the incident and demand that there be sensitivity training prior to the hiring process and, furthermore, if there are complaints made, formal mandatory classes into harassment and gender equity and suspension until they are fully completed.

Now my question to the

So I wonder if anyone was actually caught burying beer on the beach last night, as the 2008 Celebration of Light kicks off this evening. With previous festivals costing the city millions, there's no way to celebrate the fact that we aren't quite ready to give up our modern indulgences like four nights of explosive pyrotechnics. I say bring back Benson & Hedges at least... or get one of the gangs to sponsor it?

N00bz on public transit.

Bus Pass

To the young woman who couldn’t understand why her friend from UBC got on the Skytrain with her “photo student card” but she wasn’t allowed to get on the Skytrain with her student card from a makeup and beauty school.

You need a bus pass, and this is what one looks like.

Your friend has a U-pass. You have a photo student card. Arguing with the Skytrain attendant about you “having the right” to get on the Skytrain with your photo student card is

Men are scum

Cat calling has reached a new level.

Now I have been subject to some pretty horrid experiences in my life but today was beyond demeaning and annoying.

I was walking to school this morning on campus and a group of campus groundskeepers sitting on a bench whistled at me. I walked briskly and avoided all eye contact and got out of eye-line of them. I walked a bit further and was approached by another groundskeeper who looked me up and down and then said,

Ticket Giveaway: 'Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer'

posted by Jon at 2008-07-23 04:00:02
220708-jack-brooks-monster-slayer.jpgIt's time to dish out some free movie passes!

I gave you the lowdown on Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer when I gave it a positive review last weekend (and I'm not alone, as the films been getting good reception all 'round). Short version: the Canadian-made indie horror-comedy tries to recreate the fun of those good ol' 80s splatter movies, and while never quite reaching the heights of 'Evil Dead 2' or 'Cabin Fever', it's a hell of a lot fun; full of enough gore and laughs to fill anyone's need

072208_mb.jpgPremier says border line-ups shouldn't be what's remembered about 2010. No, apparently we'd rather be remembered for our awesome display of open drug use and third-world squalor.

Most British Columbians would welcome addiction housing in their neighborhood, suggests poll. But when asked about hipsters playing soccer, they were less supportive.

Tough week for the homeless. Yeah but its good to keep them on their toes. You know, so they don't get too comfortable.

The Fall of Jim Rome?

posted by Karl at 2008-07-22 12:46:05
jimrome080722.JPGOne of the reasons I like the TEAM 1040 sports radio is because of the wide range of sports talk shows.

I know the emphasis is on the local scene but I also like hearing about other sports too.

That's where shows like ESPN's early morning Mike & Mike show and "The Jungle" with Jim Rome come in.

I like hearing about the local teams but I also like hearing about American college football and basketball and MLB as well.

I particularly like "The Jungle."

Burgoo on Main

I’m slowly working my way through the various restaurants on Main Street - I’ve got a backlog, technically, I just don’t have a good photo to go with it, which I think is key. If you’ve ever seen Jeffery’s food posts, you’ll understand what I mean - he’s set the standard. We can say something is yummy, but it’s better if we can show how yummy it looks too.

Three weeks back, Burgoo opened it’s third (I’m pretty sure it’s third)
